If you become familar with these tips they way I have, you can get around your Mac faster -- and without reaching for the mouse.
Search for: See Change Spotlight preferences. Published Date: For best results, make sure they are all enabled. Drag a file from the results list to the desktop or a Finder window. You can click the magnifying-glass button in the upper-right corner of your screen, but a faster way is with the keyboard shortcut Command-spacebar. Just tap it.
If you have a large music collection, Spotlight Search can be your best friend. You can also use this to launch individual panels in the System Preferences, again just by typing the name.
Character limit: To show the location of a file on your Mac, choose the file from the results list, then press and hold Command. Because the search results update with each letter you type, you may only have to tap a few letters to bring the app to the top of the screen.
Details can be selected and copied to paste elsewhere, or clicked to trigger an action, such as starting a phone call. Spotlight Search can also search inside apps, so you might see results from recipe app or a phrase saved in Notes or the Pages word processor.
Get definitions, calculations, and conversions Spotlight can show you dictionary definitions, calculations, measurement conversions, and more. Play a song Type a song title or artist name, and you should see it appear as an Apple Music search result at the top of the list in Spotlight Search.
